Today in history class, we talked about The Great Powers of 1871-1900. The Great Powers consisted of 8 countries-Germany, France, Great Britain, Austria-Hungary, Russia, China, Japan, and the United States. The Great Powers were great, because they each had major influence on different parts of the world at that time, and they all had many achievements. Germany at the time was centered in Europe, and they also had the most powerful army at the time. France had a small army, but it's people were well educated. Austria-Hungary was divided socially and ethnically, and they pissed off the Russians by trying to dominate the Balkans. Russia, like Austria Hungary, was ethnically diverse and divided, and had many internal problems. China resisted western influence, which made them weaker, and were taken over by the British. Japan knew a guy named Matthew Perry, and defeat many countries, even though they are a small chain of islands.
